Every phone call, text message, email and website visit made by private citizens is to be stored for a year and will be available for monitoring by government bodies.
All telecoms companies and internet service providers will be required by law to keep a record of every customer’s personal communications, showing who they have contacted, when and where, as well as the websites they have visited.
Do you think this will happen here under a liberal Govt.?

They will not require the permission of a judge or a magistrate to obtain the information, but simply the authorisation of a senior police officer or the equivalent of a deputy head of department at a local authority.
Elwood – I thought the Patriot act was to monitor terror suspects.
It already is , the echelon project has been around since the early days of the net, its members include Great Britain The US Australia and New Zealand.
Don’t kid yourself, it is ALREADY happening.
It started under Bush and is happening now. The plan was originally called "Total Information Awareness" and now much of it happens under "IARPA."

Great Britain has also confiscated firearms from their people, which resulted in a fourfold increase in gun crime. The law abiding peolpe became prey for the criminals.

It is hard to understand why so many people are so badly misinformed about the Patriot Act. It doesn’t have that much authority. It basically allowed the monitoring of certain international phone calls to certain foreign countries. The Echelon program simply scanned traffic for key words and phrases and reported them to the FBI for further study. That seems pretty prudent to me. Besides, it was not Bush or Cheney only but it was passe by both houses of Congress in bi-partisan votes. It has also been extended by the Democrat controlled Congress and signed by Obama.
But the real threat to our freedom does not seem to bother a lot of people. The attempts to silence talk radio, to marginalize Fox News and add the Internet Czar.
